  7. Heat in oven for about 30 minutes (or longer if desired) then serve.

This is by far the best Mac and Cheese I've ever had and I now claim it as "my Mac n Cheese" when I refer to making it. I have made this recipe several times. You don't cover baked mac and cheese with foil as it would steam the inside and prevent it from achieving that slightly crusty golden bubbly top. In the absence of cast iron, Mac and Cheese can be baked in an oven safe pan and aluminum baking pans is also a good substitute.
